£1bn Biomass Energy Vision Brought to Life

During my tenure at an architectural practice(1994–2011),my primary focus was on concept development, planning imagery, and architectural visualization.
In 2010, our team was commissioned to develop conceptual design proposals for four new Biomass Renewable Energy Plants at major Scottish ports, with a combined construction value exceeding £1 billion. Each plant required a unique architectural vision that responded to the history and future aspirations of its site.
While the mechanical and engineering components were standardized across all locations I produced all the 3D modelling, lighting, and rendering, working closely with a dedicated post-production team to refine outputs and maintain consistency across the portfolio.
Deliverables included massing studies, conceptual imagery, planning visual impacts, verified photomontages (in collaboration with a specialist consultant), and simple animations. The work was an equal balance of 3D modelling and Photoshop stylisation, with limitations at the time driven largely by the level of detail achievable within site and building models.
Despite these constraints, the outputs successfully conveyed the distinct identities of each energy plant, supporting both planning and stakeholder engagement.
