Contemporary Coastal Architecture in North Cornwall
Positioned on the edge of Higher Harlyn holiday park near Padstow, this remarkable two-storey residence represents a sensitive yet striking addition to the North Cornwall coast. Securing planning permission against Officer recommendation, Laurence Associates achieved approval for the demolition of an agricultural shed to create a bespoke family home within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The design carefully balances tradition with contemporary detailing, ensuring the new dwelling sits harmoniously within its sensitive setting. Recessive materials, including a reclaimed Delabole slate roof, slate hanging, and natural stonework walls, complement the surrounding landscape, while slim-profile glazing captures uninterrupted views across the coastline. Traditional in form yet enriched with modern interventions, the result is a home that is both timeless and forward-looking.
Acting as both planner and designer, Laurence Associates guided the project through the complexities of the planning process and oversaw the architectural design. The outcome is a beautifully considered home that provides exceptional comfort for the local owners and managers of the family-run holiday park, while respecting the unique qualities of its coastal environment.
This project demonstrates Laurence Associates’ expertise in navigating sensitive landscapes, achieving high-quality design solutions that respond to both context and client aspiration. The result is a distinctive, future-proofed property that enhances its spectacular North Cornwall setting.
