Tradition and Innovation on Fletsand Road By: Muse Architects Context & Brief Set on Wilmslow’s leafy Fletsand Road—an eclectic streetscape where Arts‑and‑Crafts gables sit comfortably beside crisp contemporary forms—the existing 1930s house enjoyed generous gardens but fell short of twenty‑first‑century living. Our clients, a young family that includes a wheelchair user, asked Muse Architects to perform a delicate balancing act: retain the home’s familiar character, create fully inclusive circulation, and lift the environmental performance. Our target was to serve the unique needs of the family, understand how they wish to grow into the house and with it. Design Targets Inclusive Living Without Compromise – Every primary room, inside and out, had to be accessible step‑free. Light, Landscape, and Long Views – Forge stronger visual and physical connections to the mature south garden. Respectful Street Presence – Maintain the rhythm and scale that gives Fletsand Road its distinctive calm. Measured Intervention – Subordinate additions to the original volume so that old and new read as one composition.
