Wells Cathedral School refurbishment of Art & Photography Department
Following the successful achievement of both planning and listed building consent, WDA advanced the refurbishment and reconfiguration of the Art and Photography departments, housed within the existing 15th-century Grade II-listed buildings.
WDA subsequently prepared detailed building regulation drawings to support the delivery of the refurbishment works. The project is being delivered in phases to meet both immediate and long-term needs.
Phase 1 focuses on internal improvements to the building fabric, including sensitive restoration works in keeping with the historic context. Phase 2 proposes the introduction of a new studio space set within an existing walled courtyard, expanding the department’s capacity while respecting the site’s heritage character.
The enhanced facilities will offer significantly improved teaching and creative spaces for students, while also enabling flexible use for exhibitions and public events, strengthening the school’s community and cultural engagement.
