Arts and Crafts Country House Takes Shape on Northamptonshire Hillside By: Collaborative Architecture Construction is well underway on an exceptional new Arts and Crafts–inspired country house in rural Northamptonshire, with completion scheduled for 2026. The project, approved under paragraph 84(e) of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and reviewed by The Traditional Architecture Group, is emerging as a landmark example of how traditional architectural values can be reinterpreted through contemporary design and technology. Occupying a commanding position on a steeply sloping hillside, the house is designed to make the most of its elevated setting, with panoramic views extending across the surrounding countryside. Its layout is organised around a distinctive central tower, which provides a vertical focal point for the composition. From this tower, the main wings of the building step gracefully down the slope, creating a sense of progression and enclosure while responding sensitively to the site’s natural contours.
