Chilworth House
Light House Studio achieved planning approval for this extensive extension and remodelling project near Chilworth. It comprises a contemporary wooden cladding two-storey extension and other changes to provide a dramatic transformation for the house.
The proposal consists of a two-storey extension, porch extension and internal re-planning. The proposed design has been developed around the views of the countryside at the front of the house. This is where the majority of the proposed extension and key changes to the property occurred.
The majority of the two storey extension is utilising the same footprint as the existing building. The open-plan layout at ground floor has been arranged and extended to encourage a family environment and improve the circulation between the various rooms. The first floor has been arranged and extended to provide a separate master suite with a more appropriate plan. The proposed gable extension was inspired by the gable roof of the exiting house. A new centralised circulation space has also been added to simplify the original confusing layout of the house.
Timber cladding was chosen to complete the building’s bold form and its rural setting. Carefully positioned glazing provides carefully crafted vistas of the beautiful surrounding countryside. The cladding will also revitalise key parts of the exiting building fabric. A design has been created which is much better suited to the clients’ lifestyles and we are excited to help achieve the client’s vision for the property.
