Community Diagnostic Centre for Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust
Overview Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust (NLAG) has engaged ACA to design a state-of-the-art Community Diagnostic Centre in the heart of Scunthorpe. This new facility is aimed at improving access to diagnostic services for the local community, marking a significant development in healthcare provision for the area.
Project Brief The goal of the project was to create a dedicated Community Diagnostic Centre that offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic services. These include MRI and CT scanners, ultrasound, X-rays, and blood testing, all aimed at enhancing patient care and improving the efficiency of local healthcare services.
Design Concept ACA’s design for the Centre focuses on both clinical excellence and patient comfort, with an emphasis on improving physical and emotional wellbeing. A key feature of the design is its inspiration from the wave-like forms of ultrasound tissue harmonic imaging, which is symbolically connected to the simplicity and significance of diagnostic waves in detecting life. The building’s architectural lines and curves gently guide the eye towards a tree on the terrace, cantilevered for added visual impact.
Landscaping and Environment The landscaping around the building, featuring timber cladding and external planters, creates a life-enhancing atmosphere. The design is intended to stimulate the senses and provide a calming environment for both patients and staff, further reinforcing the Centre’s focus on patient wellbeing.
Conclusion The result is a contemporary, purpose-built structure that blends seamlessly with its surroundings, while fulfilling its mission to improve diagnostic access and provide high-quality healthcare. The design of the Community Diagnostic Centre reflects both innovation and sensitivity to the needs of the community it serves.
Councillor Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council commented: “This new health centre will greatly enhance residents’ access to essential health services, significantly boosting the health and wellbeing of thousands of individuals.”
The Community Diagnostic Centre was a complex project as Phil Jessop, Operations Director explains “From working on a landlocked city-centre site to integrating complex medical modalities, this project demanded meticulous planning and execution. Our team worked collaboratively with NHS stakeholders, the architect, and delivery partners to overcome these challenges and deliver a state-of-the-art facility. By bringing essential healthcare services closer to home for the community, Helix CMS improved convenience for the local community and access care but have also facilitated early detection and treatment of medical conditions.”
