Panoramic Views Over Untouched Nature in Stockholm’s Archipelago

Stockholm, Sweden – Maree Design’s architects and engineers have collaboratively designed a small but spectacular house on one of the highest points in Stockholm’s archipelago, with the utmost respect for the surrounding nature. This house is a tribute to teamwork, where every detail—from the smallest bolts to the exposed structure—is an integral part of both the architecture and the construction.
A House That Floats Above Nature

One of the building’s most striking features is its unique structure, designed by Maree Design’s structural engineer Vladimir Krilovic in close collaboration with the architects. Half of the house floats freely over a cliff, supported by 5-6 meter high diagonal glulam beams and steel tension rods anchored directly into the rock. The exposed wooden framework is not only a technical solution but also an integral and central part of the building’s architectural expression.
“This project required an extremely close collaboration between architects and engineers,” explains Vladimir Krilovic, structural engineer at Maree Design. “Every bolt and every tension rod plays a crucial role in the whole. The structure is not just a technical function; it’s an aesthetic and integral part of the house’s design. There is a direct connection between how the house looks and how it works.”
Panoramic Views and Harmony With Nature

The house is situated at the top of a cliff to maximize views of the sea and the horizon while blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The windows are carefully placed to frame specific scenes in nature—from treetops to the sparkling ocean.
“We designed the house so that every window becomes a painting capturing a unique part of the landscape,” says Ali Maree, founder and Chief Creator at Maree Design. “The architecture is designed to blend into nature and enhance the experience of it, without dominating it.”
The earthy material palette, featuring a wooden frame and natural façade materials, helps the building merge with the untouched surroundings. The house is designed to balance aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability—a building that both respects and celebrates its place in the archipelago.
A Project of High Complexity

This project is an example of architectural and engineering complexity, where solutions required meticulous planning and collaboration. “Building on one of the archipelago’s highest points, on a rock we didn’t want to disturb, meant every choice was critical,” says Vladimir Krilovic. “This is truly a project where every detail, from the glulam beams to the tension rods, was essential to both function and aesthetics.”
A Sustainable Vision for the Future

Beyond its technical and aesthetic brilliance, the project is also an example of sustainable construction. The house was built without cutting down a single tree or altering the natural shape of the rock. “We wanted to create a building that not only harmonizes with its environment but also preserves it for the future,” says Ali Maree.
The Timrarö project is more than just a house—it’s a testament to what’s possible when architecture and construction work together to create something both functional and in harmony with nature.
