Contemporary Home Remodel, South Derbyshire By: bi Design Architecture Existing Floor Area: 380m2 Proposed Floor Area: 770m2 Situated in South Derbyshire, our clients briefed us to remodel their existing historic property and create a contemporary home, full of unique and individual features, whilst still respecting the conservation area. It was important to retain the historic dominant frontage, but by adding a large two-storey extension to the rear of the property with contemporary glazing and replicating a two-storey side extension to the right, we were able to continue the form and proportions of the main house. The triple garage was extended to the front, giving the appearance of a traditional coach house and car lifts installed, doubling the number of parking spaces available. To maximise the floor area without forming complex valleys and roof structures, we created an inner courtyard providing dual aspect to more spaces. Working alongside JMI Planning, the planning officer and conservation officer from South Derbyshire District Council we successfully negotiated the planning process to obtain planning.
