Finchley Road Campus – London NW3
Over the past decade, we have proudly partnered with ESCP to transform their Finchley Road campus in London NW3. This ongoing collaboration aims to address the substantial increase in student enrolment while creating a modern, functional, and welcoming environment that supports academic excellence and student engagement. With each project, we have worked closely with ESCP to develop spaces that meet the growing needs of their diverse student body, fostering a campus that embodies both educational innovation and community spirit.
Our work at ESCP’s Finchley Road campus has encompassed a wide range of projects, from strategic masterplanning to detailed reconfigurations. Initially, our focus was on understanding the specific challenges posed by the growing number of students. By evaluating current and projected space needs, we developed a phased approach to remodelling the campus, allowing for gradual changes that minimised disruptions to students and faculty while ensuring the efficient use of available resources.
One of our early projects involved internal reconfiguration, where we redesigned existing spaces to maximise usability and functionality. Classrooms, lecture halls, and offices were reassessed and adapted to create flexible learning environments that could accommodate larger groups or smaller, focused gatherings as needed. These adjustments were made with the goal of creating a comfortable and adaptable learning environment that supports both traditional and contemporary teaching methods.
As student numbers continued to grow, the need for informal spaces became increasingly evident. Recognising that a vibrant campus experience extends beyond classrooms, we focused on creating informal student spaces that encourage social interaction, collaboration, and relaxation. These areas include lounges, communal seating areas, and breakout zones equipped with comfortable seating and modern amenities. The addition of informal spaces has not only enhanced the sense of community but has also provided students with much-needed areas for socialising and unwinding between classes, adding an essential layer to campus life.
Beyond internal reconfigurations, our role also involved larger masterplanning projects. To ensure the campus could meet future growth, we developed a comprehensive masterplan that included expansions and enhancements to existing buildings, while keeping an eye on sustainability and energy efficiency. Through careful planning, we identified opportunities to optimise campus flow, ensuring that movement between different areas is smooth and intuitive. This masterplan provided a blueprint for ongoing development, enabling ESCP to continue growing within a structured and thoughtfully planned framework.
Each phase of our work with ESCP has been guided by the goal of creating a campus that is both functional and inspiring. By prioritising student needs and focusing on creating versatile, welcoming spaces, we have helped ESCP transform Finchley Road into a campus that reflects the institution’s commitment to academic and social excellence.
Today, the campus stands as a testament to a decade of collaborative effort, with improvements that have significantly enhanced both the academic and social aspects of campus life. Our partnership with ESCP has been one of growth, innovation, and shared vision, and we look forward to future projects that will continue to adapt the campus to meet the needs of its dynamic and expanding community. Through a strategic blend of reconfiguration, masterplanning, and the creation of informal spaces, we have created a vibrant environment that supports learning, connection, and well-being for all students.
