Introducing: Tide & Timber Developments
Growing up on the beach in Downderry has always given us a connection to the ocean and coast surfing and being in the water from a young age gave me the respect we need for the ocean and it’s surroundings which has helped to shape our company on how we construct and build within the harsh costal areas of South East Cornwall, Plymouth and the wider South Devon area. When we’re not knee deep in concrete, saw dust or seaweed I love spending time with my partner and ever growing family of soon to be 3, spending time with our family and friends on the beach, in the woods and the occasional pub is the perfect thing when not on site.
Myself and my dad are carpenters by trade, the company is built on a shared passion for quality craftsmanship which we inherited from my grandad and great grandad who had an architectural practice in Plymouth.
Although carpentry sits at the heart of what we do, Tide & Timber Developments has naturally evolved into a full-scope construction company. Over the years, we’ve carried out increasingly challenging projects through hands-on experience, we have developed the skills and confidence to deliver complete builds from the ground up. Today, we work with a small, close-knit team of highly skilled and experienced tradespeople who share our standards, attention to detail, and pride in their work. By keeping our team deliberately lean, we maintain a high level of control and consistency across every project.
Our new company is lead towards bespoke residential construction, particularly one-off houses on tight-access or steep and technically demanding sites. These types of builds require careful planning, creative thinking, and a deep understanding of structure and sequencing — all areas where we excel through 40 years of experience my dad has with technically demanding sites and myself with 15 years experience. We are also enjoy complexes renovations, re-modelling projects, and sensitive extensions, often working with existing buildings that demand a thoughtful and considered approach. We thrive off projects that challenge convention that enables us allow us to work closely clients and designers to bring unique ideas to life with practical and logical build methods tailored to the individuality of each site.
Alongside our bespoke building work, we also offer full carpentry packages, drawing on our roots in the trade. From structural timber framing to high-end finishes, we bring the same care and precision to carpentry-only contracts as we do to full developments.
Through my father’s extensive experience in sea wall design through our sister company Cshore Projects Ltd we have gained a lot of experience enable us to offer a niche and highly specialised capability in coastal erosion and sea defence works. This background has given us a strong understanding of working in harsh coastal environments, managing risk, and delivering durable, long-lasting solutions in exposed conditions — experience that strongly informs our wider construction approach.
I created Tide & Timber Developments with a clear focus on building long-term relationships with local architects and designers. We are particularly keen to work on client-led and architect-driven projects. Over the next 18 months we hope to build our company to the next level and being given the opportunity to constructing super fun interesting designs whilst forming new partnerships and being a go to company within our local area.
As we continue to grow, our ambition is to deliver homes of such considered design and craftsmanship that they would sit comfortably within the pages of Architecture Vogue Magazine & Luxury Property Magazine, while remaining deeply rooted in the character of the Cornish coast.
