Adaptive Reuse With Community Impact Delivering Social Value Through Thoughtful Building Conversion in Devon At SL Quantity Surveying (SW) Limited, we believe that the built environment has the power to do far more than simply provide shelter. When delivered thoughtfully, construction projects can regenerate communities, unlock underused assets, and most importantly, change lives. We were proud to support a local contractor on the conversion of an existing commercial building into much-needed residential accommodation in Devon – a project specifically aimed at helping people get back on their feet and move forward with stability and dignity. The scheme involved the transformation of an under-used social club into a collection of vibrant, high-quality one-bed apartments. Once a building that no longer served its community, it has now been given a renewed purpose, breathing new life into the area while providing safe, modern homes for individuals who need them most. From the outset, this project demonstrated how adaptive reuse can be both socially responsible and commercially viable. Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, the focus was on maximising the potential of the existing structure.
