Lancaster Community Fire & Ambulance Station By: Frank Shaw Associates Frank Shaw Associates had the privilege of working on a truly special project: Lancashire’s first purpose-built, integrated fire and ambulance station in the heart of Lancaster. We transformed a 3-storey historic warehouse, carefully demolished the old fire station, and built a brand-new appliance bay – all while the fire and ambulance teams remained on site, fully operational. The new station now serves as a hub for 2 fire engines, 7 ambulances, rapid response vehicles, and even the North West Blood Bikes. It’s more than just a base; it’s also home to the Northern Administration Hub for Lancashire Fire & Rescue, along with training rooms, a gym, and social spaces for the teams. What made this project even more meaningful was its location in the Lancaster Conservation Area, surrounded by historic buildings. We had to create a station that wasn’t just functional, but also blended seamlessly with the city’s rich heritage. And we did just that.
