Atmospheric Visualisations for Callaghan Square Crossrail Phase 1 A Project By: WyrdTree Project Summary: Visualisation studio WyrdTree collaborated with Bristol-based urban design and landscape practice The Urbanists to produce a set of atmospheric CGI visuals illustrating the proposed transformation of Callaghan Square in Cardiff. Project Detail: Commissioned as part of the Callaghan Square / Crossrail Phase 1 project for Cardiff Council and Transport for Wales, the visuals were developed to communicate the spatial character of the new public realm during consultation and project development. The proposal led by The Urbanists seeks to rebalance the square – historically dominated by highway infrastructure—into a more pedestrian-friendly civic space. The masterplan introduces new landscape planting, improved pedestrian routes and multi-modal transport infrastructure, including future tram connections, forming part of a wider strategy to reconnect the city centre with Cardiff Bay while addressing climate resilience and placemaking. WyrdTree produced three high-resolution visualisations for the scheme: two aerial perspectives capturing the broader urban structure of the redesigned square, and one eye-level view illustrating the pedestrian experience within the new landscape setting.
