A Quantity Surveyor should not be brought in just to tidy things up later.
By that stage, the decisions have usually already been made. The contractor may already be on site.
The client may already believe they know the budget. The drawings may already have moved beyond the original scope. Variations may already be building up. And the commercial position may already be difficult to pull back into line.
That is why early QS input matters.
It is not just about producing a cost plan. It is about testing the information before the project gathers pace.
Are the drawings developed enough to price properly?
Are the assumptions clear?
Are the exclusions understood?
Are the risks sitting with the right party?
Is the contractor pricing against the same scope the client thinks they are buying?
These are not admin points. They are the difference between controlled cost management and trying to recover the position later.
A QS adds the most value before the expensive decisions become fixed.
