Private Residential Interior Design
Hampstead Modernist Marvel is a full interior redesign of a contemporary family home in North London. Led by Zulufish, the project transforms a stark, dated interior into a calm and layered living environment that feels both refined and deeply practical.
The house already had strong modernist lines, but it lacked warmth and cohesion. The brief was to create a home that felt more intuitive to live in: open, light-filled, and designed around the rhythm of family life.
Creating Flow and Cohesion
The first step was rethinking how the spaces connected. The layout was refined to improve flow between the kitchen, dining, and living areas, allowing each space to feel open yet purposeful.
Sightlines were carefully considered so that rooms feel connected without losing definition. Instead of adding more, the focus was on editing: simplifying forms, clarifying circulation, and allowing the architecture to breathe.
The result is a home that feels composed and easy to move through, with each area naturally leading to the next.
A Softer Take on Modernism
Rather than leaning into a sharp or minimalist aesthetic, the design introduces warmth through materiality and texture.
Natural timber, stone surfaces, and muted tones create a restrained palette that feels contemporary but not cold. Bespoke joinery plays a key role throughout the home, offering integrated storage that keeps spaces uncluttered while adding subtle detail.
In the kitchen, clean-lined cabinetry is balanced with tactile finishes and considered lighting. It’s functional at its core, but layered enough to feel welcoming rather than purely utilitarian.
Across the house, furniture and finishes were chosen for longevity. The aim wasn’t to follow trends, but to create a calm backdrop that will age well over time.
Designed Around Daily Living
At the heart of the project was the client’s lifestyle. Every decision was grounded in how the family uses the space, from generous concealed storage to adaptable living zones that can shift from quiet evenings to entertaining.
Lighting was carefully layered to soften the modernist structure and create atmosphere. Soft furnishings and artwork introduce personality without overwhelming the clean architectural framework.
The outcome is a home that feels considered but relaxed. Structured, yet comfortable. It respects the modernist foundations of the property while making it far more liveable.
