Reimagined Helford Home, Stunning River Views

Perched above the tranquil waters of the Helford River, this recently completed residential project by Koha Architects transforms a once-fragmented property into a light-filled, coherent family home that takes full advantage of its extraordinary setting.
Originally a substantial two-storey residence, the building had suffered over the years from a series of unsympathetic additions that disrupted both its internal flow and relationship with the surrounding landscape. Koha Architects were appointed to reimagine the home, responding to the site’s topography and panoramic views over Port Navas with sensitivity and clarity.
Central to the brief was the need to improve interior circulation and create a more open, connected layout. The design team removed cluttered partitions and introduced generous open-plan living spaces on the upper level, oriented to frame the sweeping vistas while maximising light and natural ventilation. Key architectural interventions include a subtle reworking of rooflines and terraces, and a series of carefully placed windows and openings that draw the landscape into the heart of the home.
Internally, warm timber finishes and natural materials bring a sense of calm and cohesion, balancing contemporary design with a lived-in character. The result is a home that feels both rooted in its place and fully transformed—an elegant reimagining of a much-loved building that now reflects the lifestyle and aspirations of its occupants.
The client has expressed their delight with the finished home, which now offers a seamless blend of comfort, function and architectural clarity in one of Cornwall’s most scenic locations.
