Sustainable Design Meets Heritage Charm
A Project By: Hughes Architects
We have worked closely with Powys County Council since 2022 to consider how to enhance both the visitor experience and the sustainability of these prominent buildings within Welshpool Town Centre.
Y Lanfa and the cottages are both Grade II listed as important parts of the history of the canal and its importance to local trade.

Y Lanfa houses the Powisland Museum along with Welshpool Town Library.
The new glazed extension provides a new entrance, freeing up more space for books along with additional exhibition space on the first floor. The cottages contain a retail space along with support spaces for the museum. External landscaping has been undertaking to create outdoor teaching spaces.
The project was funded through the UK Government Levelling Up fund, we assisted Powys County Council with the reporting required.
